The mysterious device is registered under the codename A2657 and is identified as a network adapter. According to documents released by the FCC, Apple sent the sample to the agency on January 22, 2022.
It also follows from the FCC documentation that Apple’s network adapter gets two gigabit Ethernet ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC, as well as a USB Type-C port. In addition, the accessory is equipped with 32 GB of internal memory and 1.5 GB of RAM. The second version of this device is equipped with a Lightning connector instead of USB Type-C and only 1 GB of RAM.
