US Senators Propose TikTok Ban 13 Dec 2022 22:58

Republican Senator Marco Rubio has introduced a bipartisan bill to ban the Chinese platform TikTok in the United States. It has been reported DEA News with a link to the document.

“The Chinese company ByteDance, which owns TikTok, is obligated by Chinese law to provide app data to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP),” the accompanying document states.

Experts and agencies are also allegedly “clear about the risk of TikTok being used to spy on Americans.” In this regard, the bill proposes to ban TikTok in the US to “protect” Americans from “foreign social networks influenced by China, Russia and other relevant foreign countries”.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey prohibited government employees to use the TikTok application on government computers and other devices. The decision was taken after discussing the possibility of surveillance by China with the secretary of the information technology department.
