Xavi’s Clásico record with Barcelona against Real Madrid: goals, matches, wins, losses and titles

Positive results on the pitch

The Tarrasa native won 40 percent of the clashes he played in against Real Madrid, which equates to 17 victories. He also endured 13 defeats and 12 draws. In terms of personal production, Xavi scored five goals against the Whites and delivered eight assists, contributing in important moments across his tenure.

Memorable performances include the 2-6 win at the Santiago Bernabéu, where he recorded four assists, and a notable match when Mourinho’s Madrid looked to assert dominance on the day of the Portuguese coach’s debut in these contests. The team opened with a goal in the 10th minute and carried that momentum forward.

Moments that defined an era

Barcelona’s golden era under Pep Guardiola stands out as the most productive period for the current Barca coach. That era was defined by a wave of triumphs that still echo through the club’s modern memories. Xavi also reflects on other defining moments that shaped his Clásico journey.

His maiden Bernabéu strike during the 2003/2004 season helped Frank Rijkaard’s side clinch a 1-2 victory and marked a turning point that preceded a period when Ronaldinho emerged and Barcelona began a remarkable run of success. The night he scored a double and earned an ovation in 2005, the team was on the rise, culminating in several iconic performances later on, including a standout win that increased the rivalry’s intensity.

Path to Real Madrid

If there is a blemish on Xavi’s Clásicos résumé, it lies in the 2007-08 campaign when his team faced Madrid after securing the league title with authority, including a 4-1 victory at the Bernabéu that season.

Head-to-head on the bench

The Blaugrana coach has witnessed both triumph and setback while commanding his squad. On one occasion, a late breakthrough from Fede Valverde derailed a potential triumph in extra time of the Spanish Super Cup semi-finals in 2022, a 3-2 result that kept the title hopes alive for Madrid. On another night, a dramatic 0-4 win at the Bernabéu on March 20, 2022 showcased Barcelona’s superior plan and the exceptional form of its players, who looked almost untouchable that evening.

In the 2022-2023 season, Real Madrid secured a 3-1 victory at the Bernabéu in a Clásico clash during the league. The subsequent fixture, however, saw Barcelona answer back with a 2-1 win at Camp Nou, keeping the title race competitive in the league standings.

In the Spanish Super Cup final, Barcelona defeated Real Madrid 3-1 with goals from Gavi, Lewandowski and Pedri, delivering a strong statement in that final stage of the season.

In the first leg of the 2023 Copa del Rey semi-final at the Bernabéu, Barcelona managed a 0-1 result as Militao scored an own goal. The second leg at Camp Nou sealed the series with a 2-1 victory for Barcelona, ensuring the aggregate favored Xavi’s men and further cementing their strategic edge in that campaign.
