The World SUP Festival Costa Blanca, an international paddle surfing championship, commenced this Friday and unfolded over the weekend between Santa Pola and the Tabarca island. The event, organized with the support of the Alicante City & Beach Tourist Board, the Alicante Sports Destination, and the Provincial Council, united nearly 400 professional and amateur athletes from the Alicante region, highlighting prominent figures in this discipline.
The deputy mayor and chair of the Tourism Board, Mari Carmen Sánchez, said that the World SUP Festival Costa Blanca has established itself as an international benchmark and has spotlighted Tabarca on the watersports map by gathering the sport’s leading paddlers. She noted that the festival not only sharpens the region’s visibility but also assists in promoting tourism through broader event exposure and seasonal balance.

The festival is organized by Daniel Parres, a Santa Pola athlete, who has developed a full program of sport-related activities alongside the competition. The lineup includes attractions for visitors of all ages, such as tourist routes, workshops, conferences, presentations, musical performances, demonstrations, exhibitions, and culinary showcases that run in parallel with the racing schedule.
The racing opened with a 200-meter sprint test as part of the Spanish Championship in open water. The Eurotour International League features a 7-kilometer open water race and a 15-kilometer elite event. On the same day, canoe and foil trials are conducted, with the schedule culminating on Sunday in a 1,000-meter Open International Technical Race.
