The Canadian defenceman Logan Stanley, playing for Winnipeg, spoke about the incident in which he collided with and injured the Russian forward Kirill Kaprizov during the National Hockey League regular season game between the Winnipeg Jets and the Minnesota Wild.
In the middle of the third period, Stanley toppled Kaprizov and landed across the forward’s left leg, a moment that left Kaprizov briefly on the ice before skating off to the tunnel. The standout winger did not return to the ice for the remainder of the game.
“I tried to regain my balance while attempting to complete a power move, and then I slipped. I did not expect Kaprizov to go down in that moment. It was just a bad play, nothing intentional”, Stanley relayed through his remarks reported by Athletic.
The game, held at the Canada Life Centre, concluded with a 4-2 win for Minnesota.
Marcus Foligno, Frederic Gaudreau, Ryan Hartman, and Mason Shaw found the back of the net for the Wild, while Kaprizov added an assist on a teammate’s goal.
On the Winnipeg side, Logan Stanley found the scoresheet again, joined by Nino Niederreiter in contributing a goal for the visitors.
Meanwhile, former Chicago Blackhawks defender Nikita Zaitsev addressed a question about how things have shifted for him after moving from Canada to the United States, reflecting on the transition and its impact on his career and life on the ice.
