Valladolid Secures a Comeback Win at Getafe

Valladolid ended a two-game losing streak by taking a victory over Getafe at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez. Oscar Plano and Sergio León found the net, while Jordi Masip played a pivotal role with crucial saves, including denying Enes Ünal from the spot in the second half.

The match opened with a spirited pace, and Getafe showcased a bright moment when Enes Ünal produced a superb solo run, beating several defenders before Masip made a sharp stop to keep the score level.

Ten minutes later, 17-year-old Togolese defender Djené Dakonam halted Oscar Plano with a foul in the box, prompting Sergio León to convert the ensuing penalty with a low strike from the middle of the box beyond the reach of David Soria.

Getafe did not stay quiet. In the 28th minute, Uruguay’s Mauro Arambarri delivered a precise cross from the right, setting up a scoring chance for Borja Mayoral. The Madrid side quickly turned the game on its head, as two minutes later Domingos Duarte sent a long ball from the heart of defense to Damián Suárez, who controlled it on the chest and outpaced Valladolid’s defense before lifting the ball over Masip to claim the second goal.

Despite conceding twice in quick succession, Valladolid remained composed. Their resilience paid off just before the interval when Sergio León struck again, finishing a move started by a pass from Kike Pérez behind Gastón Álvarez to notch a shot beyond the keeper.

LaLiga’s official feed noted the result on social media, highlighting the match in Madrid on October 1, 2022.

The second half picked up where the first left off, with Valladolid extending their lead as Oscar Plano found a loose ball near the edge of the box and drove a confident shot into the net after a quick setup from a free play.

Quique Sánchez Flores responded by shuffling his squad, bringing Münir into the action to press Valladolid higher and add more bodies to the attack while maintaining discipline at the back in a bid to swing momentum back toward Getafe.

Getafe pressed hard to pull level, and the hosts had a penalty appeal of their own in the 71st minute when Enes Ünal looked to score, but Masip read the attempt and made a decisive stop with his hand. Once again, the goalkeeper’s reactions helped Valladolid maintain a slender advantage.

In the closing stages, Munir and Juanmi Latasa joined Getafe’s forward push, forcing Valladolid to defend under sustained pressure. Masip produced a sequence of important saves to preserve the lead and secure all three points for his side.
