Valencia, playing at Mestalla, delivered a convincing performance to defeat Getafe 5-1, a result secured early as the home side stormed into a 3-0 lead within the opening quarter of an hour thanks to rapid, precise attacking play that unsettled an otherwise settled Madrid squad on the field, while the visitors tried to regain their footing in the second phase of the match.
Valencia assumed control of possession from the outset. Getafe attempted to impose pressure, yet everything shifted when an early, unexpected scoring burst gave the locals a commanding first-half advantage that set the tone for the rest of the encounter.
Three goals in the first quarter of an hour—Lino opening the scoring with a well-worked strike in the 7th minute, followed by another from Lino in the 14th, and Castillejo converting a misstep by the visitors in the 16th—left Mestalla roaring with optimism as the scoreboard reflected a rapid, decisive lead.
The best moment for Getafe in the early stage came when Hugo Duro was substituted after 24 minutes following a goal in the run of play that briefly paused Valencia’s momentum. Still, Valencia pressed on, and their dominance was visible as the first half unfolded, with the potential for more goals looming against an opponent that struggled to threaten in dangerous fashion.
In the opening 45 minutes Getafe’s offensive threat was minimal, and Valencia looked set to extend the margin. The team from Madrid seldom reached the final third with sustained danger, allowing Valencia to control tempo and position with ease.
Getafe attempted to reorganize at the start of the second half, making three substitutions in one moment to spark a reaction. Yet the overhaul did not translate into sustained pressure or meaningful chances against Mamardashvili, who had a relatively quiet evening in goal for Valencia.
Valencia did not let up as the game progressed, seizing a moment of weakness from the visitors to push the score to 5-0. The fourth goal came from Nico González, tapping in after Soria miscontrolled the ball, and Hugo Duro capped a superb team move after a perfect pass from Yunus. Between those moments, Enes Ünal did manage to test Mamardashvili in a one-on-one scenario, briefly sparking hope for Getafe of preventing a clean sheet.
Gastón, for Getafe, remained a constant threat from the left flank but could not find the decisive execution required to alter the outcome. In the 78th minute, Valencia’s goalkeeper did not concede again as Gastón’s attempt found a solid, timely save followed by a confident clearance by the home defense.
With a comfortable lead and a strong display of control, Valencia continued to manage the game efficiently, even as Getafe enjoyed a few minutes of late momentum. The home side stayed disciplined, maintaining the pace and securing a three-point reward that reflected the balance of play across the 90 minutes.
