Mauricio Pellegrino’s squad heads to La Granja aiming for a third straight win to maintain leadership in the standings.

Curico Unido and Universidad de Chile will launch the sixth round of the 2023 National Championship with a clash in La Granja this Friday.

The group led by Damián Muñoz arrives looking to rebound after two defeats in a row, a 3-2 loss to Unión La Calera and a 2-1 setback against Deportes Copiapó that left them mid table with six points, six behind the pace-setters Huachipato.

Conversely, the team coached by Mauricio Pellegrino will attempt to string together a third consecutive victory after beating Magallanes 2-1 and O’Higgins 1-0, a win sealed by Leandro Fernández who finished a brilliant counterattack at El Teniente Stadium in Rancagua. At the moment the Blues occupy third place with nine points.

Historically, the record shows a student-dominated head-to-head in 12 meetings. The U has secured six wins and 22 goals, while the albirrojos have two wins and 15 goals. Four draws complete the series. The latest encounter occurred on August 13, a 3-1 victory for Maulinos with goals from Yerko Leiva, Rodrigo Holgado and Juan Pablo Gómez. Darío Osorio scored the consolation for Universidad de Chile. Since July 2021, the blue team has not defeated their rivals from the seventh region.
