Turin has officially announced the acquisition of Russian midfielder Alexei Miranchuk from Atalanta. The move is described as a €12 million loan with an option to buy, and Miranchuk will reportedly earn €1.5 million per season as part of Torino.

The transfer of the 26-year-old Miranchuk to Turin was discussed over the summer. At one point the deal seemed inevitable, yet it was paused by Atalanta head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who was awaiting incoming signings before finalizing decisions.

While insiders suggested the hold was temporary, it was clear the talks were not cancelled. The pause lasted roughly a week, and by August 10 reports indicated that the clubs were close to an agreement, with Miranchuk traveling to Turin for a thorough medical evaluation that aimed to conclude on August 11.

Miranchuk’s representative confirmed the move to Turin, noting there were no medical objections to the transfer and that Torino promptly announced the agreement. It is also reported that beyond the €1.5 million annual salary, the contract includes performance-related bonuses, though the exact figures were not disclosed.

Miranchuk spent two seasons with Atalanta but did not regularly feature in Gasperini’s plans. He was often used as a substitute rather than a regular starter. In the 2020/21 Serie A campaign, he appeared in 25 matches, scoring four goals and providing two assists. The following season saw reduced playing time, with 19 league appearances and two goals plus five assists. Despite the decline in minutes, Miranchuk’s overall involvement averaged around 40 minutes per game, up from about 27 minutes the year before.

The Russian player sought more consistent playing time elsewhere in Europe, and Torino emerged as a plausible destination. Torino, under the guidance of Ivan Juric, finished last season in a position just above the relegation zone but moved up to tenth with Juric at the helm. The squad saw the departure of several players, including star forward Andrea Belotti on a free transfer. The team roster now features a blend of established and emerging talents, including dynamic fullbacks and a creative midfield core. Notable names include Wilfried Singo, Mergim Vojvoda, Samuele Ricci in central midfield, and Nemanja Radonjić in attack. Nikola Vlasic also joined on loan with an option to buy, adding more experience to the midfield and attacking lines. Miranchuk joins this mix after having previously crossed paths with Vlasic, with both players having familiarity on the field and in training corridors.

Juric is seen as a demanding coach who values intense, focused sessions and a high tempo style. He has experience under Gasperini, having played for him in Genoa, and there is a perception that Juric has adopted some of that approach while shaping his own philosophy. Miranchuk is expected to adapt to a system that emphasizes pressing and quick transitions, with opportunities to contribute offensively while maintaining discipline in defensive duties.

For Torino, the transfer represents a chance to bolster creativity in midfield and add a player capable of impacting the attack through smart positioning and timely runs. Miranchuk will need to seize opportunities in a squad that is eager to reclaim a more stable position in Serie A and challenge for higher standings. The coaching staff will likely expect him to blend technical skill with relentless work rate, a combination Juric often seeks from his midfielders.

The move signals Torino’s intent to strengthen the squad depth and create competition among midfielders, with the aim of sustaining a higher level of performance across the season. Miranchuk’s arrival is watched closely by supporters, insiders, and rival teams alike as Turin pursues a renewed era of competitiveness in Italian football.
