TM Benidorm Heads into a Busy Asobal Campaign with a Packed Preseason Schedule

TM Benidorm enters the new season ready to compete in the Asobal League, participate in the King’s Cup, and vie in European events organized under the European Handball Federation. A key test awaits at the end of August as the team squares off against two strong Icelandic sides, UMF Cultivation and FRAM Reykjavik, in a purpose-built preseason tournament. The matches are designed to measure readiness, depth, and on-court chemistry before the serious games begin.

The three-day preseason event runs August 26 to 28 at Palau L’Illa and is supported by the Alicante Provincial Council and the Valencian Community Ministry of Sports, underscoring the region’s commitment to high-level handball. A week before the league tips off, the tournament is expected to provide a clear barometer of TM Benidorm’s potential for the upcoming campaign.

Kickoff action starts Friday, August 26, with TM Benidorm facing UMF Cultivation, followed by a Saturday clash against FRAM Reykjavik. The event wraps on Sunday, August 28, with two additional matches featuring the Icelandic teams. All games begin at 8 p.m. local time, and subscribers will enjoy free live access, enabling fans to track form from home or on the move.

Parallel to the men’s matches, a women’s tournament will feature the Icelandic club Valur and local Benidorm squads, including Elda Prestige and Service Group Benidorm. The women’s games start at 6 p.m., two hours after the men’s program, with a Friday meeting between Benidorm and Eldense, a Saturday showdown where Valur plays Elda, and a Sunday finale with Iceland taking on Benidorm. These fixtures provide a valuable competitive environment to refine tactics and build team cohesion ahead of the season.

Beyond the tournament schedule, TM Benidorm has laid out a broader pre-season plan. On Sunday, August 21, the Valencia Community Cup Final will feature the winner of an earlier draw between EON Alicante and Fertiberia Puerto Sagunto. That match is set for Tuesday, August 16, offering a platform for evaluation and momentum as the team moves toward competitive play. Depending on how that event unfolds, TM Benidorm could have added a friendly against Fertiberia Puerto Sagunto later in the preseason, though that plan did not proceed.

Fernando Latorre’s squad will participate in three official pre-season friendlies before the league opens. The coaching staff considered one more warm-up but kept the schedule lean at three games. The standouts in the upcoming fixtures include tests against two Icelandic opponents, a critical measure of the squad’s form and understanding as they prepare for domestic league duties, the national cup, and European competition in the season ahead.
