Tarasova on Plushenko: Ethics in Russian Skating

Honored trainer of the USSR Tatyana Tarasova said that the ethics commission of the Russian Figure Skating Federation should not take Evgeni Plushenko’s statements into account.

It is recalled that the expert voiced dissatisfaction with the refereeing of the junior championship of Russia. He stated that he would not object to transferring athletes from his academy to other teams, particularly because Russian referees did not recognize the performances of his students.

“I don’t think I should,” Tarasova replied when asked about the issue.

Alina Gorbacheva, a representative of the Tver figure skating sports school, emerged as the winner of the singles tournament.

With the combined score from both programs, Gorbacheva, coached by Sofia Fedchenko, totaled 224.41 points. This placed her ahead of Veronika Zhilina from Moscow, representing the Plushenko Angels Academy (218.79), and Maria Gordeeva from the CSKA school (213.02), another Moscow-based athlete who earned bronze in the event.

In fourth place was Evgeny Plushenko, another pupil of Sofia Titova. His total score across programs reached 200.73 points. Notably, after the short program he was 16th out of 18 entrants, and after the free skate he voiced dissatisfaction with the refereeing.

Former Russian figure skater and coach Betina Popova discussed how he had two front teeth fractured during a workout.
