The respected USSR figure skating coach Tatyana Tarasova commented on recent reports that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) could issue a ruling in the Kamila Valieva case sometime in early 2024, as reported by Sports Express.
Tarasova remarked, “Yes, all of this has dragged on. Kamila is a strong competitor. She will perform, and she will do well. We simply have to endure what is happening, and there is little else to do.”
The Valieva scandal emerged after traces of the banned substance trimetazidine were detected in a doping test following her team victory at the Beijing Olympics. Despite those findings, she was allowed to participate in the individual skate event, where she placed fourth.
Currently, CAS is reviewing Valieva’s case. The hearing occurred in September, but the court postponed a final decision until November to allow for the preparation of additional documents. The ongoing proceedings mean the Russian team has not yet received its Olympic team gold medal, with the ultimate outcome still pending as the case proceeds on the scheduled dates in November. The broader implications of the case continue to resonate across the sport.
In earlier reporting, Valieva’s name had appeared in discussions about the outcome of the doping matter, highlighting the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the athlete and the decisions taken by the authorities involved.
