Former Spartak general manager Yuri Zavarzin believes that ambitions are challenging the head coach of the red-whites, Guillermo Abascal. His remarks were reported by Match TV.
“Clearly Abascal has been disappointing; he is handling the team in a way that some find hard to understand. Some may even think he did this on purpose to invite harsh judgment. In my view, this stems from his youth and lack of experience. His ambitions appear higher than the current results. He wants to show that he is the best here and now, and that approach does not always bring the expected outcome,” Zavarzin stated.
Abaskal took the helm at Spartak prior to the 2022/23 season. He renewed his contract with the club as the season unfolded, accompanied by a salary increase. In the previous season, under his leadership, Spartak finished third in the Russian Championship.
On October 8, Spartak rescued a draw against CSKA in the Moscow derby, with the match ending 2-2. The scorers for Spartak were Milan Gaich with two goals, alongside goals from Quincy Promes and Jesus Medina. The red-and-white side managed to score twice in the same game, showcasing their attacking potential amid a tight contest.
Earlier reports had noted that the coach of the Russian Premier League club aspires to guide Spartak to even greater achievements in the future.
