Spartak Moscow Star Quincy Promes Faces Scrutiny After Dubai Incident, Shalimov Comments
Russian football coach Igor Shalimov shared strong observations about Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Promes, saying the player helped shape the club and, in turn, the club helped shape Promes. The remarks were carried by RB Sports, reflecting Shalimov’s belief that Promes has both defined the team and grown into a central figure within Spartak.
Shalimov noted a pattern during recent training camps. After sessions, when players take breaks, only a small number return home. The days off are necessary, but there is underlining guidance about how to use those breaks. The idea is simple but important: rest is essential, and overdoing it is not advisable. If a player wants to unwind, hiring a driver is a prudent option. In Shalimov’s view, Promes seems to have become synonymous with the club’s ambition and its identity, with comments that the forward has helped found both the team and his own standing within it. The assessment came through a conversation published by RB Sports.
In March, a journalist named Ivan Karpov reported that Promes would face a fine rather than prison if a recent incident in Dubai were to result in legal consequences. The report suggested that authorities were leaning toward a monetary penalty rather than incarceration. This development added another layer to the ongoing discussions about Promes and his role at Spartak.
Earlier in February, Promes left the scene of an accident in the hope that the event would remain undiscovered. He was later detained by local law enforcement while trying to pass through passport control to depart from the United Arab Emirates to Russia. The incident drew substantial attention from fans and media alike as questions about accountability and discipline circulated in the football community.
According to Karpov, Promes planned to travel back to Russia on March 5. That move would position him to participate in the 20th round of the Russian Premier League, with Spartak facing Fakel Voronezh at Luzhniki Stadium on March 10. The expected return would mark a test of the player’s form and his ability to contribute to the team at a crucial stage of the season.
Earlier media coverage indicated there was talk that Promes might receive relief from UAE authorities thanks to involvement or intervention by Russian officials. The situation remained fluid as the public awaited further updates on penalties, travel, and the player’s availability for upcoming league fixtures.
