Salesianos Elche wins Spain’s sub-championship in volleyball of alevín
The President of the Diputación de Alicante, Carlos Mazón, received the provincial Sports delegation at the Provincial Palace to celebrate a notable triumph in youth volleyball. Last May, Salesianos Elche Sports Club boys’ volleyball team was crowned Spain champions for the second year in a row, while the Ilicitano school earned a strong finish by securing second place in the boys’ category at the national level this year.
“We are proud of you, your effort and sacrifice. Thank you for carrying the name of our province to the lands of the country and for your participation”, Mazón told the young athletes and their coaches. The sentiment was echoed by officials who highlighted the role of sport in shaping character and community identity, with Mazón noting the team’s achievements as a reflection of local dedication.
Mazón underscored the provincial government’s ongoing commitment to grassroots sports, describing it as a vital component of youth development. He emphasized that physical activity fosters social cohesion, personal growth, and educational success, and that the council supports a range of programs and relief schemes designed to expand access to sport for children and families across the province.
The victory for Salesianos Elche’s alevín squad underscores the strength of the region’s volleyball programs and the effectiveness of coordinated training across clubs and schools. The group of 13- and 14-year-olds trained under the guidance of Jose Miguel Gambin, who led the center, with the support of coaches Vincent Ferrandez, Ruben Fernandez, and Guillermo Iglesias. Their teamwork, discipline, and strategic play were highlighted by observers who witnessed the national competition, praising the players for their consistency and sportsmanship.
Throughout the season, the young athletes balanced classroom responsibilities with demanding practice schedules, a true test of resilience. The provincial administration’s involvement included providing facilities, equipment, and mentoring initiatives aimed at cultivating talent from a young age. This holistic approach aligns with broader regional efforts to improve physical education, encourage healthy lifestyles, and promote youth leadership through sport. The provincial leadership also recognized the importance of creating pathways that allow promising players to advance to higher levels while maintaining a sense of community and belonging within their local clubs.
In addition to celebrating the victories on the court, officials noted the cultural and social impact of these teams. Youth volleyball fosters teamwork, communication, and strategic thinking—skills that translate beyond sports into school and future careers. By supporting these programs, the provincial government hopes to inspire more youngsters to participate in organized sport, contributing to the long-term well-being and success of families across Alicante and beyond. The acknowledgment of the teams’ success serves as a reminder of the province’s role in nurturing local talent and providing opportunities for children to excel in a competitive yet supportive environment.
As the season concludes, the focus shifts to continuing development, with plans to expand training resources, improve facilities, and strengthen partnerships with schools and clubs. The message from provincial leaders is clear: grassroots sports are a cornerstone of community life, offering physical health benefits and a sense of pride for residents who watch their teams rise through the ranks on national stages. The achievements of Salesianos Elche and its peers will be remembered as a milestone in the province’s ongoing commitment to youth sports and urban vitality.
