After a short spell away from the dugout, Robert Dante Siboldi returned to Mexico to take charge of the UANL Tigres.
Following a run of disappointing results in recent weeks, the Tigres board decided to make an early change, dismissing Marco Antonio Ruiz. The former coach from Tampico leaves the university bench after failing to secure consistent results in the Closure 2023 season of the MX league.
With Ruíz out, Felina’s board appointed Robert Dante Siboldi to steer the club, marking his return after a period of inactivity since his last stint in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ahli.
The 57-year-old Uruguayan has built a notable career both as a professional footballer and as a technical director, with Mexico standing out as a country that has warmly supported him in both roles. Now entering his sixth coaching spell in Mexican football, Siboldi aims to add more silverware to his résumé.
GOAL provides an overview of Siboldi’s journey in football:
ROBERT DANTE SIBOLDI: CAREER & LEGACY
During his playing days, Siboldi began professionally in 1983 with Penarol, where he remained until 1988 before a series of brief spells with clubs in Argentina. In 1989 he joined Atlas, a move that marked the peak of his career as a player, contributing to strong campaigns with clubs like Cruz Azul, Puebla, and Tigres.
As a player, he operated as a goalkeeper and earned league titles as a Uruguayan champion with Penarol in the Uruguayan Primera División, a Libertadores Cup runner-up at times, and celebrated promotions with Tigres in Mexico, lifting the Second Division crown on multiple occasions and helping secure the Mexico Cup as well as promotion to the First Division.
In his coaching career, Siboldi has guided several Mexican sides including Cruz Azul, Dorados, Santos Laguna, Veracruz, and Xolos. He captured the Liga MX title with Santos Laguna in the Closing 2018 season, a hallmark achievement in his coaching career.
