Reinier Jesus, the Brazilian midfielder, will continue his professional path with Girona after leaving Real Madrid on loan to finish this season. His stay at Madrid could not materialize into a first-team spot due to three non-EU slots being occupied by Vinicius, Militao, and Rodrygo.
The 20-year-old midfielder thus begins a second loan spell, after a previous stint at Borussia Dortmund where minutes were not as steady as hoped. Now he arrives at the Catalan club looking for consistent playing time and a chance to contribute to Girona throughout the campaign.
Girona highlighted Reinier’s strengths, noting his high technical quality and speed which enable him to win one-on-one duels and reach high pace with the ball. They also praised his capacity to lift the ball under pressure and his intelligent movement that facilitates offensive actions. In addition, Reinier is described as an excellent playmaker who can recognize the best moments to release passes and create advantages for teammates.
This marks Reinier’s fourth club as a professional. He began in the youth ranks before moving through Gamma Basque, Botafogo, and Fluminense. He then made his professional debut with Flamengo at 17. His impressive performances with Flamengo captured the attention of European clubs and Real Madrid secured his services in January 2020, before a subsequent move to Germany with Borussia Dortmund.
Reinier became the second player to join Girona, following the recent arrival of left-back Miguel Gutierrez, as part of a loan arrangement that does not include an option to buy. The midfielder joins on loan until the end of the season with Girona, while Real Madrid continues to evaluate his development with the Catalan side.
In the current transfer window Girona has expanded the squad with several new signings, including Miguel Gutierrez, David López, Yangel Herrera, Taty Castellanos, Yan Couto, Rodrigo Riquelme, and Javi Hernández, reinforcing a team strategy aimed at strengthening the midfield and attack for the season ahead. At each stop in his journey, Reinier has sought to adapt quickly, learn from new coaches, and prove his versatility in different tactical setups. This season, his success will likely hinge on his ability to translate technique and pace into consistent performances and meaningful contributions for Girona’s competitive ambitions.
