The reclassification phase is being redesigned for the upcoming semester of Mexican football.

Although in January Michael Ariola, the chairman of the MX competition, announced the retirement of the rematch for future tournaments, the Meeting of owners confirmed that the rematch will not be eliminated from Mexican football, at least not in the next tournament opened in 2023.

The early exit of the Mexican national team in the group stage of the World Cup in Qatar 2022 prompted a series of adjustments within the Mexican Football Federation, which were announced on January 31 at the High Performance Center.

However, some of these adjustments were reversed at the Annual Meeting of Owners, where it was confirmed that the reclassification will continue, with a set of changes for the upcoming semester. Therefore, Goal explains what shifts are taking place:

Since its return in 2020, the requalification phase has operated for three seasons within the Mexican league format. It has undergone several updates for the edition started in 2023.

Previously, only four teams qualified directly for the Liguilla while the remaining four spots were decided through Repechaje, where teams ranked from fifth to twelfth in the overall standings played a single match to secure a ticket to the Fiesta Grande.

Now the process will grant only two places, with the following structure retained:
