Real Madrid’s Pablo Laso resumes training after heart attack, will miss opening Endesa League final game
Real Madrid basketball head coach Pablo Laso has rejoined team training following a myocardial infarction he suffered on June 5, but he will not be on the bench for the first game of the Endesa League championship final against FC Barcelona, scheduled for Monday at 21:00. Laso’s return to practice marks a significant step in his recovery, yet the club confirms he will remain away from the court for the opening showdown as the series begins.
In a message posted on the club’s official social media channel, Laso expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans. He wrote that he cannot reply to every message but offered a heartfelt thank you to the thousands who reached out. He added that he is feeling well and continuing training, even though he will not attend the Palau Blaugrana for the first encounter of the finals. The missive conveyed optimism about his progress while acknowledging the current need to stay away from competition during this initial phase of recovery.
The Basque coach, aged 54, was still celebrating the semifinal victory of the White team over Bitci Baskonia when he experienced chest discomfort the following day. He was subsequently diagnosed with a myocardial infarction and began a period of medical treatment at home after undergoing an interventional catheter procedure. Earlier that morning he had begun to feel unwell and was promptly admitted to the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, where he stabilized and was later moved to the Intensive Care Unit for closer observation. By the next Tuesday, he had progressed sufficiently to receive medical discharge, allowing him to focus on rehabilitation and return-to-duty planning with the medical and club staff.
