Following Rubiales’ remarks, the two-time Ballon d’Or recipient, like many teammates, posted a firm message on Twitter.
A wave of reactions accompanied Luis Rubiales’ appearance at the Extraordinary General Assembly in Las Rozas, where the still-chairman of the RFEF asserted he has no plans to resign after the controversy that followed his kiss on Jenni Hermoso at the awards ceremony for the Spanish women’s national team during the Women’s World Cup last Sunday.
Rubiales’ presence provoked strong responses. “Is it really necessary for me to step away? I am not going to resign,” he declared regarding the kiss he gave Jenni Hermoso without the player’s consent. One of the most discussed comments came from Alexia Putellas, Spain’s No. 11 and a two-time Ballon d’Or winner.
“This is unacceptable. It’s over. With you, partner,” the FC Barcelona star wrote on her official Twitter profile, supporting Jenni Hermoso in that message.
Virginia Torrecilla used her social networks to stand with the Mexican Pachuca player. “It’s over. With you Jenni Hermoso,” the current Villarreal midfielder wrote. Athenea, of Real Madrid, echoed the sentiment: “We are with you,” accompanied by an image of Jenni holding up the trophy.
Mapi León, a FC Barcelona player who did not attend the World Cup by choice, joined the conversation on Twitter: “It wasn’t long before I realized that what was demanded months ago wasn’t a mere tantrum. The images speak for themselves, and there’s little more to add. It’s unacceptable. For all women, with you.”
Aitana, Laia Codina, Irene Paredes, Patri Guijarro, Nerea Eizagirre and others joined in… The initial responses were numerous, but not the last. In fact, the national team players, alongside the FUTPRO union, were poised to publish a statement in the coming minutes. They feel that boundaries have been crossed and exceeded.
It is over. With you @Jennihermoso. It would be unfortunate to doubt the months of complaints now.

It did not take long to see that the concerns raised months earlier were not a simple tantrum. The images speak for themselves, and there is little more to add. It’s unacceptable. For all women, with you @Jennihermoso.

This is unbearable and unacceptable. United in every way.

There are boundaries that must not be crossed, and it is not tolerable. The team stands with you, mate.

I am saddened and disappointed. As a footballer and as a person, what happened today in the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas did not represent me. It is regrettable that the focus remains on a colleague.

With your friend. @Jennihermoso. There were people who gave up dreams to defend certain values, and their stance proved right. The basics and dignity mattered.
