Nienhuis conveyed these remarks to De Telegraaf, emphasizing that Promes would not receive special treatment in prison and would be managed according to standard procedures.
Asked whether he would protect Promes, Nienhuis replied that if Promes is found, arrested, and brought to the Netherlands, his status would be that of a regular prisoner in Venhuizen. According to him, Promes would not wear any distinctive attire like an orange jumpsuit and would be subject to the same rules as other inmates, underscoring a no-exception approach inside the facility.
Nienhuis insisted that his potential involvement as a former opponent would not influence his conduct toward Promes. He added that Promes is aware of his strength on the field and knows it would be a tough challenge, even within the prison context, suggesting that competitive instincts do not vanish simply because of a different environment.
Promes, who has been with Spartak since February 2021, is returning to the club for a second spell after previously playing for Spartak from 2014 to 2018.
