Promes and Spartak under Spotlight: Titov’s Take on a Key Player and Legal Matters

Yegor Titov, a former midfielder for Spartak Moscow and the Russian national team, emphasized the exceptional value of Quincy Promes for Spartak. Titov noted that players of Promes’s caliber are rare, underscoring the forward’s significance to the club. The veteran footballer’s remarks were reported by RIA News.

Titov drew an analogy from hockey, saying that the goalkeeper can be a decisive factor for a team. In his view, Promes serves a similar role for Spartak, describing him as half of the team’s strength. He admitted uncertainty about Promes’s current status with the club, including whether the player will continue to feature on the field. Titov observed that Promes’s compensation situation has become a talking point, suggesting that the matter may be nearing a resolution. He expressed concern over the implications for the club and the broader squad.

The former player also addressed legal and financial issues surrounding Promes in Russia. He referenced the possibility of a criminal case related to unpaid taxes and noted that Promes owed roughly 400 thousand rubles to the treasury at that time.

Promes’s recent legal troubles included an arrest in the United Arab Emirates on March 13, linked to a traffic incident in which he fled the scene after colliding with a bus. Prior to the incident, he had been under house arrest. The Netherlands announced plans to pursue extradition in relation to the case.

Earlier, on February 14, an Amsterdam court delivered a six-year prison sentence to Promes for cocaine trafficking, with the hearing held on January 24 and prosecutors seeking a nine-year term. On February 16, Promes was added to the international wanted list. In addition to the drug-related conviction, Promes had a separate sentence from a stabbing incident at a family gathering, resulting in 1.5 years of imprisonment in that matter.

A former Rostov coach commented on Spartak’s dependence on Promes, highlighting how the player’s presence is perceived to influence the team’s performance and tactical approach.
