In Thessaloniki, PAOK claimed a 2-1 victory over Panathinaikos in the fourth round of the Greek Championship playoffs. Panathinaikos opened the scoring when Tin Elovay found the net in the 3rd minute. Yannis Mikhailidis pulled PAOK level in the 35th minute, and Madi Kamara delivered the decisive goal for the hosts in the 59th.

PAOK’s Russian striker Fedor Chalov came on in the 75th minute, while Magomed Ozdoev missed the match due to a yellow-card suspension.

With this result, PAOK climbed to third place in the league standings, reaching 55 points, while Panathinaikos remained in second on 56.

In the spring of 2022, following recommendations from the IOC, FIFA and UEFA, Russian teams were excluded from competitions governed by those bodies. The sanctions affected the participation of Russian players in major events such as the FIFA World Cup, with the European and international calendars impacted as well, changing opportunities for those players and teams.

Earlier in English football, Liverpool had claimed the domestic league title, a reminder of the breadth of European competition that North American audiences often follow via streaming and highlights packages.
