Ovechkin, Miranchuk, Gretzky Record: Latest Update
In a Match TV interview, Atlanta United midfielder Alexey Miranchuk expressed a wish to meet Alexander Ovechkin, sharing admiration and a personal goal to connect with the hockey legend.
He pointed out that the 39-year-old star is in a position to topple Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal record. Gretzky sits at 894 career goals, while Ovechkin has 868 in the NHL, leaving a 26-goal gap and a real chance to close it in the seasons ahead. This storyline resonates with hockey fans across Canada and the United States who have watched Ovechkin’s remarkable longevity and scoring prowess.
Miranchuk added, “If the opportunity arises, of course I will see him. This is a big man, a player with a capital P. I do not know Alexander, but I would like to talk to him. He is slowly approaching the record. I wish him to set it.”
On the night of November 19, Washington defeated Utah 6-2, and Ovechkin contributed a brace. In the third period, the veteran winger was injured and could not continue. Team medical staff announced on November 20 that he would be out for four to six weeks while he recovers from the injury.
The pursuit of Gretzky’s legendary record remains front and center as Ovechkin continues his climb. Gretzky’s 894 stands as the mark; Ovechkin’s 868 leave a 26-goal gap, and he has tallied 15 goals this season. Earlier, Dr. Nikita Karlitsky stated that Ovechkin has a chance to fully heal his broken leg, keeping hope alive for a return to form and a renewed push toward the mark.
