One to three games can be suspended in principle. Ultimately, the Disciplinary Committee handed a two-match ban to Mario Gaspar, the Elche defender, who was sent off for striking an opponent during the Real Valladolid vs Elche match last Sunday.
The incident happened in the 50th minute with the scoreboard reading 1-0 against Elche. As the opponent prepared to take a corner and the ball was not yet in play, Gaspar struck Boyomo in the stomach while defending the position. The referee showed a yellow card and deemed it a violent act. A review via VAR led to a slow-motion confirmation of the attack, resulting in the red card being applied after the footage was reviewed.
Expulsions and injuries punish Elche
THERE IS
After the television review changed the color from yellow to red, Mario Gaspar was dismissed. He stands as Elche’s most experienced player, with more appearances than any other in the league and a total of 308 matches. The next in line is Pedro Bigas with around 212 matches, followed by Sergio León with about 160 appearances.
Three losses and sanctions expected for Mario Gaspar
new problem
Today, the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced sanctions for Franjiverde. The decision set a two-match ban not yet served and presented a new challenge for Sebastián Beccacece in organizing the defensive line. The body explicitly noted the penalty as violent conduct during the match, accompanied by a club fine of 400 euros and an additional fine of 600 euros for the player involved.
“Obvious factual error”?
Elche submitted an appeal contesting the red card, asserting that the official minutes described the sending off due to excessive force with the arm while the ball was not in play. The club argued that this description did not match what happened on the field and claimed a clear material error. They asserted that the player was simply jockeying for position, with minimal contact, and that an opponent fell and pointed at the referee in reaction.
Despite these claims, the Disciplinary Board upheld the initial decision, continuing the consequences for Mario Gaspar. The board indicated that it was not their role to reopen the arbitration and confirmed that there was contact in the images that supported the sanction.
