Napoli supporters returned the steering wheel of a stolen car to coach Luciano Spalletti in a gesture of respect as the specialist prepared to depart the club.
Back in October 2021, Spalletti’s Fiat Panda was taken by fans who were unhappy with the team’s results and the coach’s work. A note left at the scene read, Spalletti, when you’re gone, we’ll give you back your Panda.
Following the theft, a ransom message appeared, but Spalletti stated he would first inspect the car, its mileage, and whether the discs of artist Pino Daniele were still inside.
At the farewell ceremony for the coach, who announced his decision to step down as Napoli’s head coach, supporters presented him with a large box containing the car steering wheel and Daniele’s wheels, as a symbolic tribute.
On May 29, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis confirmed that Spalletti would leave his post at the end of the 2022/23 season.
According to the club owner, the 64-year-old specialist explained that he wanted to take a break after giving his utmost to lead the team into the new season.
