Yuri Semin, a former head coach of Lokomotiv and the Russian national team, shared his thoughts on the future of Russian midfielder Alexei Miranchuk, who is plying his trade with Torino in Italy.
According to Semin, Miranchuk has reached a level of maturity that will steer the next steps of his career. The midfielder performs well for Torino and regularly features in the starting lineup. The coach acknowledged that club decisions on the player will depend on the club’s board and transfer plans. For Miranchuk, remaining in Italy seems advantageous, as he already knows the league and the style of play here, Semin suggested. The comment highlighted the ongoing domestic dynamics of European football and the uncertain fate of player contracts.
Miranchuk moved from Lokomotiv Moscow to Atalanta in September 2020. His contract with Atalanta runs until the summer of 2024, and last season he transitioned to Torino on a loan spell after initially struggling to secure a permanent spot with the main squad. The loan move was a strategic step to gain regular playing time and showcase his talents at a highly competitive level in Serie A.
Throughout the current Serie A campaign, Miranchuk has contributed with four goals and four assists across 22 appearances, underscoring his ability to impact games in a top league even while adapting to a new team and tactical setup.
In mid-March, Miranchuk sustained an injury in Turin, leading to him missing the national team training camp scheduled for March. This setback temporarily interrupted his momentum, but the expectation remains that he will return to his previous form once fully recovered.
Former teammate Franco Camozzi hinted that Torino would face a decision weighing Miranchuk against other attacking options, such as Vlašić, as they evaluate the best path forward for the club and the player. The choice will hinge on performance, squad balance, and the club’s long-term plans for the attack.
