Russia’s top player Daniil Medvedev shared his full post-match reflections with Germany’s Alexander Zverev at the 1/8th final of a Masters event in Monte Carlo, offering a candid view of a hard-fought clash on clay.
“It was a crazy game. He had chances, serving twice for the game, and perhaps could have played more consistently, but clay courts demand patience and adaptability. I focused on watching a lot of tennis before this tournament, and one clear lesson stood out: a momentum shift can happen at any moment. If you stay calm and seize the moment, the match can turn in a heartbeat. I managed to do that,” Medvedev stated on the ATP official site.
The match stretched just over three hours, with Medvedev and Zverev trading blows across the court. In the end, the Russian emerged victorious with set scores of 3:6, 7:5, 7:6, earning a place in the quarter-finals to face Denmark’s Holger Rune.
Notably, this victory marks Medvedev’s first win in their head-to-head on dirt, changing the overall record to 8:6 in Medvedev’s favor. The win reinforces Medvedev’s resilience on clay and adds a significant milestone to his career statistics on the surface.
Medvedev currently sits in fifth place with 5150 ranking points in the Professional Tennis Players Association standings, underscoring his continued presence among the sport’s elite and his ability to compete across surfaces and formats.
Earlier reports noted Medvedev’s post-match moment with Zverev in Monte Carlo, reflecting the sportsmanlike atmosphere that characterized the high-stakes encounter and the mutual respect between the players.
