The Lucentum Trophy is scheduled for this weekend as part of an international masters field hockey event organized by Lucentum Hockey Club. The competition brings together male and female teams from Belgium, France, and Spain, highlighting a collaborative spirit across borders and showcasing the enduring appeal of master-level play.
Hosted on the resort grounds of Hotel Plantio Golf, the event marks its third consecutive year of action within this intimate, self-contained venue. With a total of 160 participants, it offers a compact, player-friendly atmosphere where teams can focus on high-level competition while enjoying the resort’s facilities and hospitality.
In this edition, a clear emphasis has been placed on expanding women’s participation. Since last year, the Lucentum women’s division has seen a 100% increase in players, growing to 25 athletes. The strengthened female contingent enriches the event with greater parity and pace, underscoring a broader commitment to inclusive growth in the sport.
On the women’s side, teams set to compete include two squads from the Belgian Chelssy HC and two entries from Lynx Hockey Club, along with Ixelles HC from Belgium fielding a team, Valencia Carpesa Hockey Club contributing a roster, Garnatha CH from Granada entering a side, and Lucentum HC fielding two distinct women’s teams. This diverse lineup reflects a robust cross-continental blend and the competitive depth of the tournament.
In the men’s competition, participant numbers were trimmed to prioritize the women’s teams, a decision framed by the Belgian Chess Hockey Club, Sco Angers from France, and Lucentum HC as hosts presenting two men’s squads. The format preserves a strong international flavor while ensuring balanced play across genders and maximizing on-field action for all players.
Lucentum Hockey Club is a young, evolving organization founded by former hockey players and rooted in the legacy of CA Montemar. Today it represents a diverse community drawn from various corners of the international hockey landscape. The club emphasizes friendship and camaraderie as core values, bringing together seasoned players and newcomers alike who are eager to learn, train, and compete. At its inception, the squad numbered just 12 players, but it has since grown to exceed 100 members. The club also supports youth initiatives with hockey schools in Elche, Alicante, and Muchamiel, aiming to foster local participation and long-term development.
As part of its growth strategy, Lucentum HC collaborates with public institutions to address infrastructure needs, including the development of a dedicated hockey field. These efforts respond to the rising demand from young athletes who want to play the sport, ensuring that the community has access to appropriate facilities for practice and competition. The Lucentum Trophy thus stands as both a competitive milestone and a beacon for regional hockey development, reflecting the club’s commitment to mentorship, sportmanship, and sustainable growth within the sport.
