Evgeny Kuznetsov, the Russian forward who has spent his NHL career with the Washington Capitals, is now a member of the Carolina Hurricanes. The club confirmed the move through its official channels, with general manager Don Waddell expressing confidence that Kuznetsov will bring valuable playoff experience and a fresh perspective to the team in the stretch run of the season.
Waddell noted that Kuznetsov’s arrival adds depth and leadership to a roster aiming to push further in the postseason. The Hurricanes view this as an opportunity for the forward to contribute on multiple lines and help elevate the club during important moments on the ice.
Earlier in the season, Kuznetsov completed a program designed to assist players dealing with personal challenges. Initiated in mid February, the NHL Assistance Program supports athletes facing issues related to addiction and mental health, providing resources and structure to help them address these concerns and return to competition with stronger focus and resilience.
Previously, Washington placed Kuznetsov on the waiver list, and after going through the waiver process without a team claiming him, the Capitals sent him to their development affiliate. This move marked a transition period for the player as he sought a path to reclaim his place within a top NHL lineup.
Since joining the Capitals in 2014, Kuznetsov has been a steady presence for the organization, having started his North American career with strong potential after a long tenure with Traktor Chelyabinsk in Russia. His seven figure salary, which reflects his role as a core contributor, has been a regular feature in the Capitals’ payroll discussions, with the current contract running through 2025 and a typical annual rate around 7.8 million dollars. In the current season, he participated in 43 games, recording six goals and 11 assists, contributing to the team’s offensive depth and their overall competitiveness on the ice.
Before balancing time with the Capitals, Kuznetsov had arranged a focused training session at the Capitals’ farm club, underscoring his ongoing commitment to maintaining peak performance and readiness, regardless of the assignment or level at which he is playing.
