Its distinctive format has attracted legends who hung up their boots long ago, along with players from modest Spanish leagues who are eager to make a name for themselves. Here is a look at the notable players and former pros who have taken part and the teams they represented.

Which players and former professionals will participate in the Kings League 2023 and which teams they joined

From a Ballon dOr contender like Ronaldinho to Javier Hernandez, nicknamed Chicharito, and Alberto Bueno, the league has welcomed a wide range of talent that has elevated the competition.

Kun Aguero played with his own team

As a 12-year-old, Sergio Kun Aguero captained his own squad, Kunisports, during several regular-season games and managed to score. An injury later limited his time on the field. In other matches he lined up with compatriots Augusto Fernandez, a former midfielder for Celta de Vigo, Atlético de Madrid and Cádiz, and Javier Saviola. The squad also included Ferran Corominas and Chica among others.

Chicharito Hernandez and Ronaldinho, supporting Ibai

Hernandez signed with his team as a marquee player, while Ronaldo de Assis Moreira, known as Ronaldinho, joined as a player. The Mexican striker, a member of Los Angeles Galaxy, remains the most recognizable active participant to join the league, while the retired football icon also contributed to the spectacle. Another notable participant was Javier Espinosa, who played for Almería, Elche and Villarreal, among others, and also took part with his team.

Casillas joins Ricardo and Alberto Bueno

The strong friendships Iker Casillas built during his goalkeeping career helped recruit fellow goalkeeper Richard, formerly of Osasuna and Manchester United, and Alberto Bueno, who played as a striker for Rayo Vallecano, Granada, Leganés and Porto, among others.

It has been a thrilling run. Each match has presented a unique moment on the pitch.
