Kamila Valieva, the Russian figure skater, opened up about how she handled a disappointing result at the Kazan stage of the Russian Grand Prix, where she finished in fourth place. Her remarks were cited by Woman Shot.
Valieva admitted she felt frustration but remained focused on a demanding goal. “Of course, I was upset. Right now, I have to give 150 percent to deliver the kind of skating I’m capable of. Sometimes hard work goes unnoticed, but I cried, rested, and kept training so I can perform better next time”, she stated.
At the 2024 Russian Championships, Valieva claimed third place. In the free program, she briefly dropped from her routine during a quad attempt, while Adelia Petrosyan, another pupil of Tutberidze, won the tournament. Sofia Muravyova, a student of Evgeni Plushenko, earned second place. After the short program, Valieva led by nearly three points ahead of Petrosyan.
Valieva has a storied track record, including becoming the 2022 European champion and the 2022 Olympic team champion. Her career has also weathered controversy, including reports of a positive drug test during the Beijing Olympics.
Earlier, Valieva acknowledged she was navigating a difficult period in her life, underscoring the personal challenges that can accompany high-level competition.
