The Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva has been sanctioned with a four-year ban after an anti-doping rule violation. She took part in the filming of a new season of a TV show titled Confectioner. This upcoming program airs on the Cuma TV channel and centers on young contestants racing to craft the most impressive desserts for well-known guests.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled Valieva guilty of a doping violation and issued a four-year disqualification. During the ban she will not be eligible to compete in any events until December 2025. The positive substance test was detected at the 2022 Russian Championship, a detail that has profoundly affected her competitive status.
As a result, Valieva was stripped of her gold medals from the Russian Championship and the European Championship. At the Beijing Olympic Games, she had contributed to a gold medal for the Russian team. Following the disqualification, the International Skating Union reassessed the team results from the 2022 Olympic Games, awarding the team bronze to Russia without stripping the nation of its overall medal status. The United States team claimed gold, while Japan earned silver in that event.
A former Olympic champion commented on the likelihood of Valieva resuming competition after the suspension, emphasizing the practical challenges and the road ahead for her career.
