ISU Continues Doping Tests on Kamila Valieva Amid Four-Year Suspension
The International Skating Union is maintaining doping tests for figure skater Kamila Valieva, who received a four-year suspension for anti‑doping rule violations. This update is reported by TASS. Valieva remains under monitoring as a high‑profile athlete in the sport.
The ISU has overseen Valieva since mid‑2020, and in parallel, the Russian Anti‑Doping Agency (RUSADA) continues to conduct its own testing. The combined oversight aims to ensure compliance across all major events and選 competitions where she may participate or be eligible to participate in the future.
On January 29, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled Valieva guilty of doping and disqualified the skater. The decision blocks participation in competitive events through December 2025 and also restricts practice at state skating facilities.
On February 7, CAS released its reasoning for Valieva’s case. Beyond the banned substance trimetazidine, three legally permitted substances were detected in the skater’s blood. These substances are ecdysterone, hypoxene, and L‑carnitine. The CAS document notes that Valieva reportedly used a large number of medications and supplements between 2020 and 2021.
Towards the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) urged international sports federations to consider restricting participation by athletes from Russia and Belarus. In response, the ISU imposed suspensions on athletes from both countries for a period covering various competitions.
Earlier updates indicated a potential end to Valieva’s competitive career seemed likely, with ongoing discussions and evaluations shaping the athlete’s future in the sport. Cited: TASS and CAS documentation provide the primary basis for these developments.
