Andrew Parsons, the chair of the International Paralympic Committee, addressed the issue of allowing Russian athletes to compete in international events.

Parsons noted the IPC can call an extraordinary general assembly at short notice. He explained that last November the organization decided to suspend Russian and Belarusian competitors, but this decision could be revisited at the upcoming General Assembly scheduled in September. He added that the next steps depend on geopolitical developments and what changes might have occurred since then. (Inside the Games)

Earlier in November it was confirmed that the Russian Paralympic Committee had its IPC membership suspended. The RPC was stripped of all IPC rights except the right to appeal, a move that can only be reversed by the general assembly.

The IPC had previously expelled the RPC from membership in August 2016, ahead of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. The RPC was conditionally reinstated in March 2019. (Inside the Games)

Reports had indicated that the RPC sought intervention from the United Nations to challenge what it viewed as discrimination against Russian athletes. (Inside the Games)
