Intercity is set to host its latest fixture at Antonio Solana this Sunday as the club moves into a fourth promotion surge since its 2017 founding. To achieve this ascent, Siviero’s squad must overcome El Ejido, while a loss by La Nucía would not hinder Intercity, as La Nucía competes in Granada. The result would seal Intercity’s promotion to the First RFEF, coming just a week before the Camilo Cano clash between Intercity and La Nucía. The team, nicknamed the Men in Black, continues a remarkable climb after a football boom that has delivered four promotions in five seasons.

Intercity’s rise traces back to its debut campaigns in Catalonia’s football pyramid and beyond. The 2017-18 season marked a decisive ascent in Regional Preferred, with the club crowned champions on 14 April 2018 with four games to spare. Their record spoke volumes: 24 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses, finishing a comfortable distance ahead of UD Horadada. The team boasted an attacking machine that scored 85 goals while conceding just 15, under the leadership of coach José Vicente Lledó.

The club celebrated its pride with the players and staff, parading through the streets of the promoted town on a tourist bus. Although the campaign had not yet reached the one-year mark, the project began to gain serious momentum that afternoon. The squad included Sergio Chupe, Crivi, Pedro Chinchilla, Rubi, Óscar Fonfría, Raúl Agulló, Mateo “Tito” Adrián Bernabé, Javier Climent, Borja Segura, Wata, Dani García, Sola, Oskitar, Garca, Coco, Rafa Pani, Alexis Egea, Hucha, Soria, with Enzo López and Edu Lledó guarding the posts.

Intercity earned promotion to the Third Division and secured the right to participate in the King’s Cup. The club continued its ascent in the 2018-19 season, earning promotion to the Third Division and qualifying for the Copa del Rey. The technical staff included Raúl Poveda, Edu Lledó, Alexis Egea, Baldo, Heredia, Luís García, Paco Peña, Rafa Pani, Raúl Fuster, Soria, Akapo, Álvaro García, Israel Pérez, Chinchilla, Chupe, Cissé, David López, Garca, Hugo, José García, Tenza, Abraham Gomis, Diego Calvo, Hucha, Jordan, and Juanlu. Under their leadership, Intercity finished first in the division with 78 points—seven clear of the runner-up Villajoyosa CF—achieving 25 wins, 3 draws and 6 losses, and an impressive 92 goals for, 25 against, with Jaime Hucha scoring 30 goals and claiming the top scorer crown for the category.

That success set up a promotion semifinal against CD Utiel in the promotion phase to the Third Division. The first leg at Utiel ended in a stalemate, while the return leg in Sant Joan saw Chupe’s early goal and a late penalty save by Raúl Poveda sealing a final spot against CD Onda. The first leg of the final at La Serratella showcased a 0-4 Intercity win, with goals from Abraham, Israel, Chinchilla and Raúl Fuster, cementing their presence in the higher tier. In the final league match before promotion, Intercity clinched the Third Division title with a narrow victory at home.

The leader is worth two draws

Two seasons later, with Gustavo Siviero at the helm, the club earned promotion to the Second RFEF. The journey culminated in a grand final against Elche Ilicitano, where Intercity clinched promotion by finishing ahead in the previous rounds. As time ran short, the breakthrough goal arrived in dramatic fashion when a cross found Bellotti, whose fierce strike found the net to make it 1-0, sealing another milestone for players such as Manu Herrera, Marc Sirera, Alexis, Álvaro Pérez, Peña, José García, Bellotti, Aldrid, Coco, Josiel, Andy, Cristian Herrera, Jordan, Piquero and David Torres. This moment reinforced Intercity’s status as a rising force in Spanish football.
