One hundred years of Hercules in 90 minutes

The centenary celebrations of Hercules have culminated with a powerful musical tribute that marks the club’s milestone. After years of planning and public events that began in 2021, the Commission’s activities reached their grand finale, highlighting the passion surrounding the club’s history and its supporters.

The anthem, created by Alicante composer Luis Ivars, was presented and studied at the University Headquarters in Alicante. The presentation drew participation from members of the centennial commission, former players, and a broad circle of fans. Among those in attendance were former stars Palomino, Paquito, Ramos, Carcelén, Hercules Ram, Manolo Jiménez, as well as ambassadors and admirers of the club. The first team was represented by Carlos Abad and Nico Espinosa, with Rubén Torrecilla, Carlos Parodi, Paco Peña, and Valentín Botella also taking part.

Ivars explained the evolution of the anthem, describing it as the result of a collaborative choral effort shaped by consensus with the centennial commission. The song transitioned from an initially more lyrical version to the final arrangement performed by Manu Pilas, with the full piece clocking in at around three minutes. The collaboration also included Oriolana singer Esmeralda Grao and contributions from the voices of the Inmaculada choir, alongside notable Alicante musicians. The composer emphasized that the anthem seeks to reflect the heroic, legendary spirit associated with the club’s name. He added lyrics to a piece for the first time, aiming for fans to connect deeply with the song. He noted that the fan base would drive the anthem forward as its sails, and acknowledged that the track is being prepared for release on major global digital music platforms.

The event also featured a second, more pop-oriented version of the anthem, which is slated for a public unveiling in front of Hercules supporters at the José Rico Pérez stadium during an upcoming league or Copa del Rey match. Ivars expressed a dream that Rico Pérez would embrace and learn the song, hoping that after a challenging period on the field the anthem would help galvanize the team and spark a climb through the divisions. He added optimism that the centennial year could mark a turning point and help the team regain momentum by the end of the celebrations.

In parallel with the anthem’s presentation, the centennial commission outlined a commemorative program of events designed to honor the club’s history. The plan included a redesigned shield, veterans’ matches, the appointment of ambassadors, new mascots, public football tournaments, educational lectures, centenary carols, commemorations, and broadcasts that reflect on the organization’s journey. A set of legacy recommendations was offered, including designating June 22 as the official anniversary date. The 1919 team’s first match and the club’s evolution to its current designation, Hércules Fútbol Club de Alicante, were highlighted as pivotal milestones in the club’s long and storied history.

The commission’s work formed a resonant narrative of continuity and pride, linking past achievements with present celebrations and future ambitions. The centenary year was framed not only as a remembrance of the club’s early days but also as a beacon for its next chapters, inviting fans to participate, celebrate, and rally around the Hercules name as the team aims for continued ascent. The anthem, the events, and the commemorations together crafted a holistic tribute that honors the club’s heritage while inspiring those who carry its banner into the years ahead. (Cesar Hernandez)
