“Someone writes that it’s all because of money problems”

News from the Rzn.Info agency reported that Georgy Savin died after falling from the 18th floor of a Ryazan apartment block in the Olympic village area where the hockey player resided. REN TV cited that he was in the apartment with his girlfriend, who was showering when the tragedy occurred and Savin fell from the window.

The press service of the Moscow Region team sent condolences through their official Telegram channel.
Georgy Savin is remembered as a bright, kind, and positive person. Born in 2002, he graduated from the Podolsk school Vityaz and spent three seasons with the Russian Knights, serving as captain during the 2021/22 season.

Colleagues and fans find it hard to accept his passing on June 22. Savin remains in the memory of the Russian Knights team from 2019 to 2022. The club extended condolences to his family and friends, expressing their sorrow in these moments.

According to Dmitry Fedorov, who oversees interactions with Ryazan-VDV fans, financial difficulties or personal life struggles could have contributed to the death.

Georgy reportedly fell from an 18th-floor window of a rented apartment the previous day. Specific circumstances are not yet clear, and rumors have circulated about possible issues related to money or a fight with a girlfriend. Fedorov, who spoke with RIA Novosti, said he did not witness such problems and was shocked by the news. He emphasized that Savin was a promising player and that the idea of such a tragedy does not fit his memory of him.

A club employee mentioned starting a fundraiser to assist the Savin family and planned to contact the player’s mother soon. In less than a day, Ryazan-VDV fans and other concerned people raised roughly 30 thousand rubles to support the family.

People who knew him described Savin as the Good Giant, a healthy, kind, humble, and hockey-obsessed young person who enjoyed conversations and demonstrated a bright personality. While his performance included time with Vityaz and Ryazan-VDV, he faced the challenges of reaching higher levels, choosing to join the youth team of the NMHL before continuing his development in other leagues, as noted by a Ryazan-VDV representative in an interview with Match TV.

Ryazan investigators have initiated a pre-investigation inquiry into the player’s death. The railway MSO of the city of Ryazan confirmed that procedural steps are underway to determine all the circumstances surrounding the incident, as reported by Russia’s investigative authorities and cited by the regional investigative committee.

Savins’s professional beginnings trace back to his early coaching under Gennady Kudrin. In 2017 he earned recognition as a winner in the Russian youth championship under 16. In 2019 he joined the Vityaz system, then based in Chekhov. During his time with the Russian Knights in the MHL, he appeared in 156 games, scoring 29 goals and providing 35 assists. He made his KHL debut in the 2021/22 season, appearing in 13 games and scoring a goal in a 5–2 victory over Sibir on October 18, 2021. In the 2022/23 season, Savin played for Ryazan-VDV in the VHL, the farm team of Vityaz, appearing in five games with the Paratroopers, while his youth team appearances totaled six games with a goal and an assist.
