Former referee recounts alleged private-room pressure from Florentino Pérez

According to a former referee, Florentino Pérez reportedly asked to meet in a private room after a 2010/2011 match between Real Madrid and Deportivo de La Coruña.

“Pérez called me to a separate room and asked me to whistle as Barcelona did.” That is the account given by former Basque official Iturralde González, who recalled that the request was made after the match in the 2010/2011 season. He said he informed the Referees’ Technical Commission about the incident on the same day.

“I just asked you to whistle at me like Barça”

Iturralde shared the episode on Cadena SER, explaining, “If Real Madrid people are TV journalists, who summoned me to a private room? Let them investigate. It shows how some individuals try to pressure. In a game against Deportivo, the game was over, we left the field and the assistants joined me. Someone tried to isolate me in a room and said: ‘I only ask you to whistle at me like Barça’,” he recounted on the chain’s Carousel program.

‍♂️ “After a match between Real Madrid and Depor, someone pushed me aside and wanted to lock me in a room. He said to me: ‘I’m just asking you to whistle at us, just like Barça’”

“I asked him to see if he was joking. The man was Florentino Pérez.”

“Since RMTV are journalists, let them investigate”

“He represents Real Madrid. I told him to verify if he was joking and I said the conversation was over. He wanted to place me in a room alone, but I declined. After about thirty minutes, the Referees Technical Committee became aware of the issue. It seemed serious, but nothing came of it. Since Real Madrid TV employs respected journalists, let them look into it. I even suggested they start at the top to ease their search.”

“Florentino put me in a separate room and I reported it to the CTA”

“No president has ever placed me in a private room. The facts matter to me. The person who tried to isolate me was Florentino Pérez. I don’t hide. There is a CTA report because I confirmed it. This shows how pressure can be applied. There are no corrupt referees; we are above that,” he concluded.

Iturralde González sues Real Madrid TV

The former Basque referee has filed a complaint against Real Madrid’s official television channel after a broadcast suggested arbitration decisions that favored the white club in the past. In an interview, Iturralde stated that “Enríquez Negreira had no power or influence over the referees. Now, unfortunately, they have used Real Madrid Televisión’s platform to air a report on Clos Gómez not worthy of a club that claims to be the best in the world.”

“The report is low and indecent. I would stake my reputation on Clos Gómez’s integrity, who has faced wrongs both against and for Real Madrid. They only highlight mistakes when charges come from the prosecution. The president allows this because it is his television,” Iturralde González explained.
