This will be Flamengo’s second appearance in the competition after reaching the final a few years earlier.

FLAMENGO PARTICIPATION IN THE CLUB WORLD CUP

Flamengo reached the semifinals in 2019, defeating Al Hilal 3 1 in a dramatic clash that featured goals from Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Bruno Henrique, and an own goal by Ali Al Bulayhi. The final proved tougher, as Flamengo dropped a 1 0 decision to Liverpool in extra time, with Roberto Firmino finding the winner.

Historically, Flamengo also played in the Intercontinental Cup in 1981, overcoming Liverpool 3 0 in Japan thanks to a brace from Nunes and a further goal attributed to Adílio, with Zico shining as the team’s standout figure.
