Eldense Earns Promotion as City Celebrates
In the heat and under the threat of a summer storm, the streets welcomed the city’s heroes Monday afternoon. People acknowledged the players, the coaching staff, and the entire squad for lifting the local team to the Second Division after decades of striving in the lower tiers.
The crowd echoed the slogan “A segunda oé oé oé” as a tourist bus rolled through the main avenues, the club crest displayed everywhere, and banners reading “Aupa Deportivo” and a giant banner commemorating 100 years were proudly unfurled across the city.
Starting at seven in the evening and lasting about ninety minutes, the historic players left Nuevo Pepico Amat, the stadium that symbolized the club’s long-standing glory on Sunday night, to parade through Doctor Fleming, Reina Victoria, and Gran Avenida. The march then moved toward the Town Hall, passing Padre Manjón, Virgen de los Desamparados, Circunvalación, Novo Hamburgo, Paseo de la Mora, Avenida de la Libertad, Santa Bárbara and Dos de Mayo.
Eldense Already Second!
This banner moment drew widespread applause as fans filled the streets in Barça jerseys, waving scarves and cheering for the champions as the century-old flag was passed along from hand to hand.
Many viewers captured the scene on their phones as the crowd celebrated. A small band of supporters rode on motorcycles, their engines and horns amplifying the triumphant atmosphere, while fans tracked the procession from every corner of the route.
At City Hall, the mayor awaited the Eldense squad wearing a club scarf for the ceremony, and thousands had gathered in Plaza de la Constitución to applaud the team and its success.
Earlier in the evening, in Plaça de la Ficia, the crowd heard a message of thanks from the city leadership as the team’s supporters looked on with pride.
There were loud congratulations for the players, coaching staff, and management for the season’s accomplishments. The city’s leaders also acknowledged the fans who stood by the team from the first game of the season, enriching the history of Deportivo and the community alike.
The delegation arrived at City Hall around dusk, with the club president and leadership signing the City Council Honor Book as the crowd’s applause grew louder.
In a final moment of celebration, the team addressed the public from the balcony, donning their black shirts with a gold inscription announcing promotion to the Second League.
The city’s representatives thanked the players, coaches, and board for their unwavering support and belief in Eldense’s future. The coach’s words resonated: there may be three promotions on the horizon, but this one stands as a landmark achievement, with the message that Eldense can dream bigger than ever.
