Elche’s away success grows as Beccacece’s plan bears fruit

The expansion of Elche against rival zones presses forward. Since its first away win of the season in Huesca, a 0-1 victory secured by Nico Fernández Mercau on October 22, Beccacece’s squad has climbed the road record, racking up more wins away than at home. Five away wins to date, with two of them in cup competition, contrast three home triumphs. The squad now aims at Andorra’s goal, choosing to maintain focus on football rather than transfer rumors. His impact peaked again when he celebrated a Tenerife victory.

first victory

Claiming victory in Huesca on matchday 12 brought a deep sense of relief to the group. After more than two months into the season, the game plan showed signs of maturity on the road, though not all understood the approach yet. Beccacece faced questions about the continuity of a tactical idea, but the team persisted. The path forward became clearer as results started to align with intent.

From that moment, the team realized road wins were possible and repeated the achievement four more times. The first came against Europa in Barcelona on November 1 in the Copa del Rey first round, with a 0-2 score driven by Mourad and Mendoza. Elche then visited the Albacete stadium, earning a 1-1 draw thanks to a goal from Óscar Plano on November 4. On November 18, the visiting side struck again, this time beating Espanyol 2-0 thanks to a brace from the experienced Braithwaite.

Another league victory

The next trip took the squad to Alcorcón, where Tete Morente and Óscar Plano doubled the lead to 0-2 in what became one of the team’s most complete performances. By early December, the two sides met Linares in the cup on the 11th, delivering a 1-3 win with goals from Borja Garcés, Aleix Febas, and Sergio León. On December 15, Elche visited Oviedo, started strong but eventually faltered, losing 3-2. Óscar Plano and Nico Fernández Mercau found the net for the visitors. Mendoza’s ongoing influence continued to show as the Tenerife victory materialized.

Solution

Elche has shown the capability to score and win more often away from home than at Martínez Valero. Visiting teams have to adapt, sometimes taking more risks and opening spaces for Elche when playing outside their home environment. As a result, Sundays could present fresh chances for Beccacece and his squad to extend this away success and press the pace on opponents.
