Elche seeks greater success in signings with a new sports commission

In recent talks, Elche CF has formed a fresh sports commission featuring Sergio Mantecón, Mauro Óbolo and Antonio Barragán. The group is operating in the Second Division to compile a broad roster of promising players who could bolster next season’s squad.

The playing style outlined by coach Sebastián Beccacece has been made public, and now the task is to assemble the pieces that fit the profile the Argentine manager desires. The focus is on identifying players who can slot into the system and enhance the team’s performance, aligning with Beccacece’s vision for the upcoming campaign.

One priority is to recruit a midfield pivot. Carmona appears unlikely to stay with Elche as things stand with Omar Mascarell; if he remains, he would be set to play in a central midfield role. John Chetauya, from the reserve squad, has shown traits suitable for this position and is currently the sole player with such attributes in the medulla system.

Last Monday, coverage noted Victor Camarasa from Oviedo as a potential target. His contract is expiring, and though he has been in Elche’s orbit before, a recent long injury cooled that interest. Now Elche is ready to pursue him again, with club insiders describing him as a free agent who fits the profile they are seeking.

But Camarasa is not the only midfielder under consideration. Another Elche favorite is Oriol Rey, a Catalan player who impressed with Mirandés, featuring in 41 of 42 Second Division matches this season. He has experience with Barcelona’s youth categories, is left-footed, and displays excellent ball control. The classic Barça number 5 profile is highly compatible with Beccacece’s preferred style.

In 2018-2019, Oriol Rey moved to Leeds United and later connected with Valladolid’s system. His trajectory progressed, earning recognition as a player of the present and a promising future. His contract is set to expire, meaning he could join without a transfer fee if terms are agreed.

During the previous winter market, Elche showed interest in Oriol Rey, but Mirandés rejected the approach. Given his strong performance this season, Rey has attracted attention from other clubs, yet a viable contract remains a possibility for Elche.

His goal would be to explore a route to the Premier League, yet if that proves difficult, Elche presents an attractive option. He knows he could be a key figure in the squad as the club aims for promotion.

According to Cazurreando.com, another player on Elche’s radar – confirmed by this publication – is Betis’ 23-year-old winger Juan Cruz Díaz Exposito. An Argentine by birth, he moved to Spain to play for Málaga and then joined Betis’ youth setup. He holds dual citizenship and, while primarily a right winger, can also play on the left.

In five appearances with Betis’ first team, he has shown potential. His contract runs through 2025, and the deal would likely be on loan. Elche views this as a solid bet for both immediate impact and future depth, particularly if there is promotion to the top flight in subsequent seasons.

Beccacece and Bragarnik both know him from Argentina and believe he could be a good addition. If the Crevillent negotiations to renew his Elche contract stall, he could serve as a strong substitute for Tete Morente and, above all, Josan. At the moment, there is only interest and talks could intensify in the coming days.

When questioned about Beccacece, Camarasa, and Oriol Rey, the spokesperson declined to comment. The Argentine coach acknowledged that he could not be too explicit because the players concerned are highly valued by other clubs, and revealing details could complicate negotiations.

The conversation remained guarded, underscoring the delicate balance between pursuing attractive options and respecting ongoing deals within the club’s strategic plan for the upcoming season.
