Elche’s third January transfer is now official

Arnau Puigmal arrived in Elche with an injury to the back of his right thigh, but his attitude was all about proving himself. The Catalan midfielder spoke at his presentation, expressing a clear wish to leave behind the rough moments in Almería and the recent challenges. He described this step as a new opportunity and emphasized his happiness to join Elche. He added that the moment felt right and that minutes he had long sought finally appeared, giving him a chance to demonstrate his value at a new club.

Puigmal had previously been connected with Real Zaragoza, and when asked about that possibility he confirmed it had existed. He explained that there was no overarching plan, just the injury he carried and the chance that arose with Elche. He believes the timing aligned with a reasoned path, and that this is where he is meant to be. He became Elche’s third signing on the last day of the winter market, joining on loan with an option to buy.

To get better

The 23-year-old midfielder also spoke about his recovery process. He said he feels good and that he is reaching the stage he needs in the rehabilitation. His current feelings are positive, and he is giving his all to recover as soon as possible. He is focused on rebuilding match fitness and contributing to the team as soon as he can.

His natural position is that of an inside midfielder. He explained that this is where he enjoys playing most, inside the field, but he is always ready to help the team whenever the coach requires. Puigmal described himself as a versatile player who can defend near his own area with the calm authority of a veteran central defender and also contribute offensively with the composure of a midfielder or striker. He believes he has the ability to reach the final zones and help both with goals and with defensive stability when needed.

“Giant” club

The arrival at Elche was framed as a potential step back in career terms since the previous team had played in the First Division. Puigmal, however, doesn’t see it that way. Elche is described as a very large club with significant potential. He expressed strong motivation and a belief that the club can grow in importance and push for promotion. He cautioned that it is early to talk about outcomes and that the focus is on taking things one match at a time, with Amorebieta the immediate challenge to seize a stepping stone forward.

“Great dressing room”

When it comes to his personal goals, Puigmal wants more than a spot on the table. He highlighted the team spirit as a decisive factor. He praised the locker room and said he felt at home from day one. The atmosphere within the squad is seen as a strong driver for performance. He noted that competition within the group is healthy and motivates him to prove himself. His immediate priority is a full recovery from the injury and a solid contribution to the team once back on the pitch.
