The Elche CF squad resumed training this Tuesday after a reserve day on Monday. The Franjiverdes players took part in a session held in France behind closed doors at the sports city facilities. The team is preparing for a key clash on Saturday at 21:00 in the Martínez Valero stadium against CD Tenerife, a matchup that could shape the promotion race.
Elche’s coach, Sebastian Beccacece, is aiming to have Fidel Chaves back in action after he did not travel to Huesca last weekend. Also in the final phase of recovery is John Chetauya following fibula surgery, while long term injuries keep Sergio Leon out of contention for this match.
Fidel was not selected for the squad that faced Huesca. By mutual agreement among the player, the coach and the medical staff, it was decided that a long bus journey and playing at El Alcoraz would not be ideal for his calf. This situation has persisted for several weeks, and the goal is to avoid a setback that could rule him out for weeks again. The club chose not to reveal the absence to Huesca to prevent any hint of Fidel being unavailable from leaking out ahead of travel.
Beccacece spoke at a press conference last Friday before the Huesca clash, noting the effort shown by the captain and recalling how Fidel managed to push through discomfort with unwavering commitment. He added that Fidel’s absence is a meaningful blow given his leadership on the field, yet emphasized that when tough times affect performance, it is essential to seek options that keep the team moving forward.
Beccacece: “We will strengthen our leadership in the winter market”
For the squad, several parties concluded that the best course of action ahead of the next fixtures was to rest and resolve the lingering issues to ensure the team is in peak condition. Upcoming important matches against Tenerife, Albacete, Real Zaragoza, and Espanyol mark a critical phase as Elche aims to climb the standings and pursue promotion with renewed vigor this season.
Should there be no new problems during the week, the Huelva midfielder is expected to be available for the match against Tenerife next Saturday.
