Elche CF Changes Festa d’Elx Trophy Schedule for 2022-23 Season
The Elche CF club announced this Monday that the Festa d’Elx trophy will not be held before the league season begins. For La Liga 2022-2023, Elche’s squad will open on Monday, August 15, with a visit to Real Betis at the Benito Villamarín stadium. In a formal note, the Franjiverde side explained that the Festa d’Elx Trophy has shifted its date and will not be played prior to the start of La Liga Santander 2022-2023. With the season approaching and multiple activities taking place at the Martinez Valero stadium, the club opted to move the trophy date to a later point in the campaign.
Initially, the dates under consideration included a possible slot during the December break due to the World Cup in Qatar. There remains some uncertainty as the season framework evolves.
Elche also stated in a separate release that as part of the club’s promotional efforts and its outreach to every corner of Alicante province, the Festa d’Elx trophy will be replaced by a friendly match featuring the first team against a provincial opponent. The exact date and opponent will be announced soon. There is speculation that the match could take place at the Camilo Cano Olympic Stadium in La Nucía on Sunday, August 7. The mayor of La Nucía has indicated support for the club’s promotional initiative, and it is possible that the team could participate in this week’s event. César Ferrando’s squad is expected to meet a selection from the AFE on a forthcoming Saturday, with the possibility that the starting lineup could be used against Elche on Sunday if the schedule permits.
