Former Lokomotiv Moscow defender Dmitry Sennikov shared thoughts on Georgy Dzhikia, suggesting the Spartak player could provide steady value for the red-green club day after day.
According to Sennikov, Dzhikia is a seasoned stopper whose experience could be a major asset. He emphasized that Lokomotiv would benefit from acquiring a player they already highly value and trust. Yet he added a note of caution: for Dzhikia to make a lasting impact, the move should be driven by the aim of becoming the team’s leader, not merely changing teams again. In Sennikov’s view, leadership is the true measure of whether such a transfer would work for him and for the club.
Dzhikia is set to depart Spartak at the end of the current season.
Having joined Spartak in 2017, Dzhikia helped the club win both the league title and the Russian Cup, contributing to a successful period in the team’s recent history. Spartak confirmed his exit on 18 May. The following day, Dzhikia wore the captain’s armband and took the field for 67 minutes in the 29th round of the Russian Premier League against Rubin, signaling the end of his run with the side in a competitive match.
That encounter ended in a 3-1 victory for Spartak over Rubin. In that game, Dzhikia did not produce a noticeable impact, with his influence on the pitch appearing limited in his final appearance for the club.
After securing the win, Spartak climbed to fifth place in the Russian Championship standings, a position that reflects the club’s season trajectory under the leadership of head coach Vladimir Sliskovich. The team currently sits on 49 points, underscoring the competitive stance of the fight for top positions in the league.
Earlier remarks from Yuriy Loza had already called Jikia a genuine captain, underscoring the perception of his leadership qualities among peers and observers. That assessment framed Dzhikia as a player whose presence could shape the locker room and influence on-pitch decisions, a factor that would carry weight in any prospective transfer discussions and future team dynamics.
