Djokovic Advances to Wimbledon 1/8 Finals, Set to Meet Hurkacz

Novak Djokovic, the world’s No. 2 in the ATP rankings, advanced to the 1/8 finals at Wimbledon by defeating Stan Wawrinka, who sits at No. 88 in the ATP standings, during the tournament’s third round.

The clash stretched for 2 hours and 10 minutes and concluded with a straight-sets victory for Djokovic: 6:3, 6:1, 7:6 (7:5).

Djokovic produced 11 winners and, while he did commit a single double fault and convert four of the nine opportunities he earned, Wawrinka delivered six aces and did not record a double fault throughout the match.

In the upcoming fourth-round match, Djokovic is set to face Hubert Hurkacz from Poland, a tough obstacle in his bid to defend the title.

Djokovic is the defending Wimbledon champion. Last year he defeated Nick Kyrgios of Australia in the final in four sets: 4:6, 6:3, 6:4, 7:6 (7:3). The tournament also noted that players from Russia and Belarus did not participate in Wimbledon 2022 due to the organizers’ decision.

Wimbledon opened on July 3 and runs through July 16, featuring a prize fund totaling £44,700,000 as part of its rich legacy and competitive calendar.

Earlier in the tournament, Andrey Rublev also progressed to the fourth round, underscoring the depth of talent present at this year’s Championships.
