Danil Krugovoy, a midfielder for CSKA Moscow, spoke about the upcoming clash with St. Petersburg Zenit and made it clear that revenge on his former club is not his aim. His remarks, captured for RB Sports, carry a practical lesson about focus and performance not driven by sentiment.
“Naturally, I will give my all to win and I want to defeat my old team. My departure wasn’t smooth, and a lot of energy will be on display with a big crowd expected. I hope for a full arena,” Krugovoy said. “Do you want revenge? Not exactly. I have only been with CSKA for two months, and I’m happy here.”
The two clubs, CSKA Moscow and Zenit, confront each other in the eighth round of Russia’s Premier League. The match is scheduled to take place in Moscow on September 14, with a 16:30 local kickoff time.
Krugovoy, now 26, previously wore Zenit’s youth colors and later featured for the main blue-white-blue squad before signing with CSKA as a free agent in the summer of 2024.
His CSKA contract runs through the end of Zenit’s 2023/24 season, a move that initially saw him loaned to Zenit-2 by Zenit’s management. That arrangement meant Krugovoy spent six months in Russia’s third tier before returning to top-flight action in the Premier League and proving his versatility on the defensive line.
So far this season, the defender has appeared in nine matches for CSKA, contributing one goal and two assists. His deal with the Army Team extends to the summer of 2028, signaling the club’s intent to keep him for the long term.
Krugovoy’s departure from Zenit in the manner it happened drew attention and sparked debate about transfer dynamics and player movement within Russia’s top flight. Still, he has focused on his current responsibilities, seeking to help CSKA achieve a strong performance against Zenit and solidify his role in the squad for the coming years. (RB Sports)
