A 57-year-old man, an amateur cyclist, died this Saturday after suffering respiratory arrest at the finish line of the fourth stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana. The incident occurred in the town of Vall d’Ebo, according to Civil Guard sources cited by EFE. The death was confirmed shortly after 16:50 while a medical team waited for the body to be removed by the attending physician. A medical helicopter had been dispatched to the scene to assist with the critical situation.

Earlier, at about 14:40, the Emergency Information and Coordination Center (CICU) received a report of an unconscious person in the finish area of the Volta. The medical helicopter in the province was dispatched to the site, and after immediate care provided by the event’s medical services, theSAMU team carried out advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other life-support procedures, but there was no response and the death was confirmed.

The death prompted the organizers to alter the stage finish. The route was changed to connect Teulada-Moraira and Vall d’Ebo at the height of El Miserat, about 15 kilometers from the originally planned finish line. This adjustment was made in order to adapt to the unfolding medical emergency and to prioritize the well-being of riders and spectators alike.

In light of the tragedy, the race organization suspended all planned post-stage activities out of respect for the rider and his family. The cyclists who were en route to Vall d’Ebo were directed to complete the stage under the new finish arrangement, reflecting an emphasis on safety and sensitivity in the wake of the incident.
